Street Photography Encinitas

Interesting times we are currently living. To all those being negatively affected I am truly sorry. Today walking through wet empty streets, it was like a movie set of the city where I’ve spent my life..

Encinitas is to me

I learned how to surf at moonlight beach. I had a 1970’s 5’9″ Sunset surfboard. This thing was sitting at the back of a friend’s garage; I packed some wax in the most obvious holes and that was that. Me Surfing moonlight probably came to be, because of stories my dad would tell. I think he would say he; “lived 2nd house north of the dip” as a kid. They would ride motorcycles from the beach all over the place. Down the 5 freeway before it was built. Apparently; I think in 1973 it snowed on the beach in Encinitas. It would take 100 ft of scraping to produce a sandy snowball, but a snowball nonetheless.. I wish I still had that surfboard..

Empty Enci

Living here so long it’s easy to get caught up in the “its so crowded now”. While this may be true, I am an early riser and have found that to be my best bet at enjoying these streets. With a worldwide pandemic in full effect 2pm on a tuesday has the same look and feel as 6am on a sunday.

Nikon D850 settings

I didn’t have a clear objective with this blog. I gave myself a few parameters to take photos with today. I wanted to utilize my cameras “in camera” crop options. All photos were 1:1 in camera crop. I also wanted to only use my f 1.8, 50mm nikkor. Manually focusing I think helps illustrate depth of field and opens up a new avenue of control in creating an image.

Taco Tuesday

After getting a few Tacos from Haggos (its taco Tuesday after all). I sat in my jeep waiting for a break in the rain. I’ve tested the Nikon D850’s weather proof claims on numerous occasions. Today I felt like staying dry. Finally there was about a 40 min break in the rain.

Without homes

In my early 20’s I volunteered with an organization feeding the homeless. The objective was to break down barriers in communication. You would serve individuals in need and then enjoy a meal with them. To hear the story of “how”; came to be. I had 3 conversations with 3 separate people today:

  • one guy; incredibly nice, we chatted for a bit on what we did for the day.
  • the next guy; nothing more than a hello. he was busy writing some notes and preparing his guitar.
  • third guy; started our interaction with “where the pussy at?” That was also the end of our conversation.

One positive, one neutral and a negative interaction. I chalked that up as a draw on the day and went home.
