Camping Big Bear Lake California
This was just a quick trip up to Big Bear to shake down a buddy’s new Jeep and take his son out for his first overnight camping trip. During this trip, we had lunch in town and did a small loop out in the Holcomb Valley area. Possibly more popular for its climbing, Holcomb Valley has a network of forest service roads that could keep you busy exploring for a while. For more about Holcomb Valley climbing and a map to the location, click here to see another one of my blogs featuring that.
More than just a leisurely walk in the park, if you want to see what your 4×4 is made of, there is the opportunity to test yourself on some tough trails like “John Bull” or the “Holcomb Valley Trail.” Note, there is a Holcomb Valley road which is a graded road a Honda Civic can drive down, and then the “Holcomb Valley Trail,” where 35″ tires, a locker, and skid plates would be advised.
All in all a good yet quick overnight trip.
