It was great being in my “backyard” at the Pro Downhill U.S. National Championship in Big Bear Lake, California. Big Bear is—and has been—a place I spend a lot of time riding and camping during those joy-filled months of not having to pedal uphill while Snow Summit’s ski lifts deliver happy two-wheeled patrons 8,200 feet above sea level to enjoy 1,100 feet of unearned descending. Big Bear also has a rich history in downhill racing, at one point even being a stop on the World Cup Downhill series.
