Lake Almanor
Is a 1,308,000 acre feet reservoir located in Plumas County, California. Approximately 2 hrs north of Lake Tahoe and 2 hrs north west of Reno. The 2 closest towns to Lake Almanor are Chester to the west and Susanville to the east.
Lassen Volcanic National Park
Visible to the north west of the lake is Lassen Peak. Part of the Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lassen Peak stands almost 10,500 ft above sea level. Lassen Peak is a volcano that last erupted in the early 1900’s and is the furthest south volcano in the Cascade Mountain Range. It also makes for a great hike! The National Park is a relatively short drive from Lake Almanor and I would highly recommend it! Click here for more information about the hike.
Chester California
This is the closest town to the lake and other than the peninsula store and a few eateries around Lake Almanor, this where food and other supplies are available. During my stay I shopped at the “Holiday Mart” in town as well as grabbed a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop (Coffee Station, Chester California).
My stay
I was on the peninsula of the lake for my time there. The sprawling gated community was a great place to unwind and listen to the wind blow through the pines. I’m unsure how many full-time residents to seasonal residents there are. During my stay in the middle of June it wasn’t very crowded at all. I was very impressed with how beautiful the lake and surrounding areas are. I did know this lake even existed until about a week before my trip but I would definitely visit again!
